چکیده

• Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) based Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) methods inherently have superior sensitivity to molecular changes in tumors. • CEST MRI provides unconventional and in many cases molecular specific image contrast. CEST contrast can be turned on and off. • CEST MRI is sensitive to pH and molecular changes in tumors. • It enables the differential diagnosis between radiation necrosis and tumor recurrence. • It enables high resolution imaging of glucose metabolism and protease activity in cancer. • It has the potential to serve as an imaging biomarker for diagnosis of tumors and monitoring tumor response to therapy.

Imaging Cellular Proliferation in Prostate Cancer with Positron Emission Tomography

Prostate cancer remains a major public health problem worldwide. Imaging plays an important role in the assessment of disease at all its clinical phases, including staging, restaging after definitive therapy, evaluation of therapy response, and prognostication. Positron emission tomography with a number of biologically targeted radiotracers has been demonstrated to have potential diagnostic and...

A Novel Biocompatible Nanoprobe Based on Lipoproteins for Breast Cancer Cell Imaging

Objective(s): Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of breast cancer provides valuable data on the disease state of patients. Biocompatible nanoprobes are expected to play a pivotal role in medical diagnosis in the future owing to their prominent advantages. The present study aimed to introduce a novel biocompatible nanoprobe based on lipoproteins for breast cancer cell imaging.<br...

Preclinical studies of 166Ho-chitosan for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma

Introduction: Recently, due to the special characteristics of 166Ho and chitosan, 166Ho-chitosan complex was developed for treatment of tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma. This complex has been lately prepared with high radiochemical purity in our lab. The preclinical studies of the complex however should be performed to evaluate the tracer concentration in target and...

Non-invasive molecular imaging for preclinical cancer therapeutic development.

Molecular and non-invasive imaging are rapidly emerging fields in preclinical cancer drug discovery. This is driven by the need to develop more efficacious and safer treatments, the advent of molecular-targeted therapeutics, and the requirements to reduce and refine current preclinical in vivo models. Such bioimaging strategies include MRI, PET, single positron emission computed tomography, ult...

2 Preclinical Models of Tumor Growth and Response

Experimental models of cancer have played an important role in cancer drug discovery for more than 60 years. The same models have proven critical as tools for the elucidation of the molecular basis of neoplastic transformation, the processes involved in tumor progression and metastasis, and the determinants of therapeutic success or failure. More recently, transgenic models in particular have b...

Preclinical multimodality phantom design for quality assurance of tumor size measurement

BACKGROUND Evaluation of changes in tumor size from images acquired by ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a common measure of cancer chemotherapy efficacy. Tumor size measurement based on either the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria or the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) is the only imaging biomarker for anti-cancer drug...
